David Blaine was born in Brooklyn in New York in 1973. He was, for the most part, raised by his single mother in Brooklyn until his mother remarried and the whole family moved to New Jersey. When David Blaine was seventeen he moved back to New York and lived in Manhattan.

While, David Blaine definitely does a lot with his trade and is very good at almost everything he does having to do with illusions and magic, there are certainly things that he excels at and is known for more than other things.

David Blaine's first television special involved street magic. The show was aptly called David Blaine: Street Magic. With his street magic, David Blaine has changed the face of magic in recent times. David Blaine has made the magic more simple, and not focused so much attention on the razzle dazzle of a spectacular show like many modern magicians have come to do. David Blaine focuses more on the crowds response to his magic tricks as opposed to the actual show that he is putting on, this simple way of approaching magic has made it not only more accessible to people everywhere, but also has put much more of a focus on the actual magic and not just how the show can look with special music and flashing lights.

In 1999, David Blaine was buried alive for seven days. He was inside a plastic box that was placed under a water filled tank atop a big building. This was an extremely frightening notion to people who could simply not figure out how he did it or if he was even going to make it out alive.

In 2000, David Blaine was inside a massive frozen block of ice. He lasted in this block for a simply inconceivable amount of time to most people. He was in the box for just under sixty four hours inside New York's Times Square. David Blaine even admitted himself that a stunt of this magnitude was dangerous and he would never attempt it again, as after being taken out of the ice he was not in great shape physically and mentally.

In 2002, David Blaine completed another stunt, which he called vertigo. Under the auspices of this stunt, he was lifted by a crane to the top of an one hundred foot high pillar where he stood for an extended period of time. He then jumped down onto a huge pile of cardboard boxes.
